The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman

Chapter 338 - Sleep

A few days had passed since Zaos escaped from the battlefield, and whenever possible, he used wind magic to enhance his movements. Thanks to that, he was about to return to the kingdom, but he wasn\'t even a bit happy. He had things to do, which would only make him feel more depressed if he got the expected results.

Zaos rarely stopped to rest, he only slept for three hours every night, and since he was in peak condition, he felt that he could endure that pace for two more weeks. Thanks to that, he had plenty of time to read the book that taught him how to speak ancient languages. It didn\'t take long for Zaos to learn a few things… that boy was actually a magic book that could let anyone use magic. However, not in the normal way… there were no instructions in using magic by drawing the symbols in his head. The people had to speak using the ancient tongue.

"To think that my guess was right… originally, magic was something that could be activated by using only voice," Zaos said to himself. "To make it more battle-oriented, someone evolved it in the way we use today. That someone was probably the demon god."

Using that thick book, Zaos could learn many spells that the people of the kingdom had forgotten. However, when he read one out loud and activated a Fire Bullet by using his voice alone, he didn\'t receive any notification.

"This is weird…" Zaos rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Derenus thought that I could be the reincarnation of the demon god, but this proves that he couldn\'t be more wrong."

His system doesn\'t work with the previous way magic was used, so, apparently, there was certain compatibility between Zaos\'s system and the new way of using magic. Considering the last pieces of information he obtained, Zaos assumed that whoever brought him to that world wasn\'t directly connected to the demon god. Still, it was probably too soon to confirm that.

The list of spells was massive, and Zaos couldn\'t help but clench his teeth when he found one that could restore stamina. The effects were temporary, but that certainly could improve the overall health of someone… if Zaos only had got his hands on that book three years earlier…

"Ah, this is no good… I can\'t think this way," Zaos said and then shook his head.

Zaos had planned to use a book like that to learn the language, but now he will be able to do that and learn many other spells. That would be fun once he confirms the things he has to confirm…

"Let\'s see… I can\'t take back Moody now without raising some suspicious, maybe I should steal another horse and leave him behind," Zaos thought. "Stealing that horse would be too weird… at least from everyone else\'s perspectives. I guess I will attack the mansion of the Keazanna family confirm what Derenus said and then wait for some of the people of the base to leave and investigate and then I will attack the base\'s stable and free some horses. They will think that the followers of the demon god did that and I will be able to recover Moody without any problem."

It was quite weird for Zaos to go that far just to recover a troublesome horse, but in the end, he didn\'t want to betray his ally. While he was troublesome, he was better than most horses, and he could endure all types of weather and environments.

The mansion of the Keazanna family was located thirty kilometers southeast of the northern base. It had a small village around it, but it only housed the people that worked for that family. Once Zaos found the road that would take him directly to that mansion, he decided to stop and then sleep until sunset. Cover thirty kilometers in a single night would be tough, but stamina wasn\'t a problem for Zaos.

Sleeping in the open without a tent to protect Zaos from the wind had been though, but at least that prevented him from oversleeping. When night came, he began to run at his top speed toward the mansion. While he had to stop to catch his breath a few times, Zaos still arrived at the place before midnight. Some lights were still illuminating the outsides of the village, but most people were already sleeping. Despite the fact that they were quite close from the northern base, the mansion was being guarded by twenty guards.

"It is quite a high number considering that this regions doesn\'t have to worry about criminals…" Zaos furrowed his eyebrows.

The guards were heavily armed, so a fight would make too much noise, and it would alert the villagers. Even if Zaos decides to kill them all, even though he has no reason to do it, he will end up making a lot of noise.

"An enhanced punch in their stomachs will put them to sleep, but there is their armor to consider…" Zaos rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Let\'s see if I can find something useful in this book that might help me with this."

It was dark, and the sky was cloudy, but Zaos still could read by using Light in the Darkness. Much to Zaos\' surprise, he found one that would be really useful… it was called Sleep. What the spell could do was obvious.

"Spirits of the wind, night and darkness… put my foes into a deep slumber… and prevent them from seeing the truth that light brings… Sleep…" Zaos frowned. "I didn\'t know things such as spirits existed in this world."

Zaos had to practice using the ancient language for a while since he didn\'t have much experience. Regardless, while casting the spell without his voice was the best option, it wasn\'t the fastest one. Once Zaos pronounced the spell right, he noticed a weird sound passing through the area. It was a pretty calming sound, and it was coming from his body. Much to his surprise, it didn\'t look like the spell was a single target.. Still, after thinking for a while, Zaos noticed that it was only obvious since he lost three hundred points of mana.
