My OP Minion System in the Apocalypse

Chapter 133 Information

I was awoken by the slightly frantic sounds of birds chirping in the distance.

I pulled myself out of bed and put on some clothes. It was a relatively peaceful day, a day which had become the norm for me... to some extent. Slowly, I made my way down the stairs and into the kitchen.

What was I going to have today?

The house came with a fridge and a kitchen cabinet so I could have things which generally didn\'t go into my inventory. I grabbed a slice of bed out of its bag and placed it in the toaster. I couldn\'t help but marvel at how far the elves managed to progress in such a short amount of time. Without systems at that, although some of this technology might have been provided by the humans who recently have been migrating in.

A few moments later, a piece of toast popped up and I placed it onto a small white plate. I grabbed some butter out of the fridge and spread it along the toast. The butter was still quite solid since it just came out of the fridge but after a little bit of pressure, it melted, coating the bread.

I also poured myself a glass of milk.

Sometimes, I forget about the little pleasures in life like cooking your own toast.

It was something that lots of humans didn\'t have during this apocalypse.

As I finished my breakfast, I put my utensils into the sink to be cleaned later. I could always just get one of my Minions to do it at night.

With breakfast completed, I put on my shoes and made myself out onto the bright streets of the city. I had woken up a little later than usual so the streets were already filled with various different people going about their days.

I was going to be having my meeting with Elanor soon so I began making my way to the designated cafe. There were quite a few things I wanted to talk to her about, but I was most interested in the situation with the vampires.

A few minutes later, I saw that Elanor was already waiting in front of the cafe where I had asked to meet at. The two of us made our way inside and found a seat near the window.

"So, you called me here to talk right?" she said.

"Yep, there\'s some stuff I want to know."

"I can\'t just divulge all the information I know to you."

"Don\'t worry, I won\'t ask for anything that\'s too private."

"Alright then... so go ahead."

"Let\'s have some food first."

I had just had breakfast a little while ago so I ordered only a drink, but it seemed that Elanor was quite hungry, ordering quite a large meal."

"It\'s on me, order up," I said.

"Are you sure?\'

"Yep."

I had plenty of money account, especially after helping out in the defences yesterday. Just for my short involvement, I was paid 200 Krena. It seemed that my leaderboard status was still carrying me through the city, offering me quite an easy life.

A little later, I finally decided to get to the point.

"So, Elanor, what\'s the situation with us and the vampires?"

"What do you mean?"

"How strong are they, how are we coping?"

"Um... I\'m not sure if I can—"

I leaned forward and looked up at her.

"You want to know about Elrich, don\'t you?"

After a moment of hesitation, she continued.

"Alright, I guess I\'ll tell you since it\'s not that confidential. So based on our calculations, the vampires are multiplying at a very worrying rate, and their average strength is also quickly increasing."

"Mhm."

"Basically, we need to go on the offensive and take out the vampire progenitors, otherwise we\'ll eventually be overrun."

"I see, do you have more specifics?"

"Uh, basically, we have around 45 of what we\'d call elite soldiers, these are the people who can feasibly defeat one of the stronger vampires. From what we\'ve found, the number of these stronger vampires is rapidly increasing, while we can\'t produce elite soldiers at a rate anywhere close to catching up."

"Hm, so when is the offensive planned to happen."

"We\'re hoping to get the offensive underway within a week, although there are a ton of technical issues in terms of lack of information on the enemy. We need to run more reconnaissance missions to gather intel on the enemy, except the issue is that no one is willing to go on them. They\'re basically a death trap for the soldiers."

"Ah, that does sound like an issue."

"However, I\'ve managed to pull together the biggest reconnaissance team yet, so today, I\'m hoping to be able to make a breakthrough in terms of intel on the vampires."

"Alright, well, I don\'t want to hold you up for too long since this mission sounds, pretty important. That was about all that I nee—"

She suddenly grabbed my arm.

"Now, tell me about Elrich."

"Fine, what do you want to know?"

"Where is he?"

"I\'ve told you already, I can\'t tell you."

"Why not?"

"I\'ll tell you once this entire vampire situation blows over."

"Why...?"

"You\'ll understand."

"Can you at least tell me... why did he leave?"

Wait, she didn\'t know why he left?

I thought it was quite obvious.

I guess he never did inform her.

"I\'m not going to sugarcoat this..."

"W-what... what is it?"

"He left for your sake, he was trying to protect you from the repercussions of the murder."

"Wait... so when I went to him that night..."

"Sounds like you get it."

"No way... he left... because of me..."

Suddenly, tears began welling up in Eleanor\'s eyes. Now that I was sitting here, it was quite an awkward situation. She was obviously distressed upon hearing the news, but I wasn\'t really sure what to do.

I decided to just give it to her blankly.

"Elanor."

"...yes?"

"When you eventually set up the squadrons for the offensive operation, I want you to put me in your squad."

"...w-why?"

"It\'s the best outcome for both of us. If you want to see Elrich again, this will be your best chance."

"Y-you... who are you...?"

"Honestly, I don\'t really know myself... anymore."

For some reason, every night, I had this same dream.

It was a dream about someone, watching me from another... plane?

I couldn\'t really decipher it, but something wasn\'t right.
