Great Doctor Ling Ran

Chapter 848: The Anatomy of the Liver

Chapter 848: The Anatomy of the Liver

On Wednesday, when the sky had just turned bright, herds of students walked toward the campus buildings.

The students of Yun Hua University had their priorities in the right places, and there were always not enough seats in the library and study rooms. That was especially true when it came to students in medical school. There were always endless books to read and endless examinations to take. Many of the medical students’ daily lives were just like that of secondary school students.

However, such students would not practice on patients for nothing once they left medical school and started their practice.

Conversely, Qi Zao’s aim in life was to become a reporter.

She chose to come to medical school when she was young and naive. Once she started medical school, she realized that life there was extremely tiring, their learning environment was super dirty, and that the syllabus was tremendously hard…

Nowadays, reporters were not exactly respected. They did not earn much and were not powerful either. But Qi Zao was from a rich family, and she did not care about all of these.

She really wanted to become a reporter, and there were not many reasons for it.

For this purpose, Qi Zao woke up at five in the morning. She stood guard and the cross-junction where all students had to pass through before entering camps. She then placed her camera on a tripod and started taking photographs nonstop.

As she took pictures, for some reason, Qi Zao started laughing.

Beside her, a guy from the campus radio took the opportunity to straighten up. He asked, “What’s so funny?”

“Have you realized that a lot of guys are wearing formal shirts lately?” Qi Zao pointed in front of her, and one-third of the guys were actually wearing all kinds of formal shirts. This might be normal among the working class, but it was a peculiar thing to do for a university student.

The guy from the campus radio smoothed the creases of the formal shirt he was wearing without realizing it and asked, “What’s wrong with wearing formal shirts? In today’s society, there’s nothing wrong with wearing anything you want. Aside from this, we are going to become members of the society soon, and you can see wearing formal shirts as a kind of training too…”

“You’re right.” Qi Zao saw that the guy was wearing a formal shirt too, and there were even strips on it. She quickly ended the conversation. “I was just looking for a reason to strike up a conversation.”

The guy from the campus radio furrowed his eyebrows and squatted back down. He continued taking photographs.

After a long time, with his back facing Qi Zao, the guy said neither too loudly or too softly, “I have a girlfriend.”

Qi Zao hummed in acknowledgment. She did not react at all.

“We enjoy a very good relationship.” The guy gave a special reminder.

Qi Zao sighed and stood up. She turned to glance at the other party’s tall but hunched figure. She shook her head and said, “You’re ugly, but you sure have a lot of fantasies.”

“Huh?” Surprised, the guy turned toward her.

Qi Zao glanced at his face in disdain. She was no longer in the mood to take photographs, and she packed up and left. As she walked, she muttered, “I’ll have to cleanse my eyes by looking at Senior Ling.”

……

In the lecture theater, the students who had the same thought in mind filled up all four hundred of the seats inside. The rest of the students who did not manage to grab a seat stood in the corridors and on the windowsills.

No matter how hard the air conditioners in the lecture theater worked, they failed to eliminate the heat emitted by the bodies of such a large number of students. Because of the lively atmosphere, the lecture theater became hotter and hotter. This seemed to boost morale, make them incredibly excited, and give the students strength, though.

“Today’s the first day Ling Ran is teaching officially, isn’t it?” Dean Wu Junior stood quietly outside a window on the third floor. He was peeking into a small window.

He did not enter the lecture theater as he was worried that this would affect the teaching process. But he could not help but come over to take a look at things.

Even though there were plenty of teaching assistants in the university who were in their twenties or thirties, the number of students who attended their lectures could not be compared to this at all.

Since Ling Ran had gathered such a large number of students, even though he was only teaching an elective class, it could not be helped that other people would scrutinize him under a microscope.

A cadre from the teaching administration department was there with Dean Wu Junior. He played along and flashed a smile. “We tried to limit the number of students, but it did not work. So, the students have no choice but to find themselves in a little bit of a squeeze in the room.”

“That’s more than a little.” Dean Wu Junior could see that not only were there three students who were sharing two seats, but a lot of them were also standing in the corridors and sitting on the windowsills.

The cadre had no choice but to laugh self-deprecatingly. “That’s the way things are. There are a lot of students outside who did not manage to come in. They intend to make a scene.”

Naturally, Dean Wu Junior looked outside.

“They won’t end up making a scene. I asked some students from the student council to maintain order.” The cadre immediately explained.

Dean Wu Junior nodded slightly and did not comment. He merely said, “What happens next is up to Ling Ran.”

“Doctor Ling’s class will definitely go smoothly,” the cadre spoke some words of assurance as it did not take a lot of effort for him to do so. When the dean did not respond to him, the cadre from the teaching administration department merely pretended to look at the lecture theater with an earnest expression, though it was fake.

The lecture theater could fit in a lot of people, second to only the great hall of Yun Hua University. It was the largest classroom in the university.

In truth, many of the lecturers were fearful of Yun Hua University’s lecture theater.

This classroom looked very good whenever it was full of students, and it had a large sitting capacity. However, it was extremely embarrassing for lecturers standing at the podium if the lecture theater was not full. This was especially true when there were very few students.

Regardless of whether a medical lecturer had good clinical skills, if they were not good enough at teaching, very soon, the students would start shunning them.

In a university, a lecturer’s income and reputation might not really be affected if he could not teach well. However, he would definitely embarrass himself.

The lecture theater was buzzing with the voices of students. This became louder and louder, and the students slowly grew agitated.

Dean Wu Junior could not help but raise his hand and glance at his watch.

The class would be starting in a minute.

*Creak*

Ling Ran opened the door.

He was wearing a pair of Oxfords and a simple white formal shirt without any pattern. However, the students could barely take their eyes off him.

*Click, click, click*

A cacophony of shutter sounds echoed throughout the lecture theater.

Ling Ran was calm in the face of this. He merely put down the book in his hand and said, “I’ll get started with today’s class, the anatomy of the liver…”

Compared with the usual anatomy classes in medical school, a class that depicted nothing but the anatomy of the liver was more simple and specialized.

That was not really useful for medical students who had not started their internship. Most doctors might not even have the chance to work on the human liver ten years after they graduate from medical school.

However, regardless of whether it was on campus or in a hospital setting, Ling Ran did not really care much about what most doctors thought. Hence, now that he had the opportunity to teach an elective class, he chose to talk about the anatomy of the liver without hesitation.

That was what he was the most familiar with, so he would be able to convey his knowledge to his juniors in the best way possible. Ling Ran did not think that it was a problem that some students would not be able to understand what he was talking about.

Perhaps the student who could not understand what he said should look for another job. They did not have to toy around with the human body and improve their skills by putting other people’s lives at risk.

“Our department made this model of the liver,” Ling Ran said and whipped out a model of the liver at the scale of 1:1 from the briefcase he brought along. He then stood in front of the screen and held up the model, “In today’s class, I would like to present all of you with some real cases. First of all, let’s look at the hepatic portal vein.”

As Ling Ran spoke, he toyed with the model of the liver. At the same time, Yu Yuan, who was hidden behind the podium, was holding a remote. She broadcasted surgery footage of Ling Ran on the projector.

In the footage, he was stripping the hepatic portal vein.

All the students craned their necks to watch the video.

This was because Ling Ran was stripping the vein extremely effortlessly, and he was very skillful in doing so. The students could hardly believe how aesthetic the video was.

It might also be because Ling Ran cut a towering figure, and his facial features were perfect. It was a sight the students could hardly forget.
