Chapter 66: Treating Legs
The next morning, Qi Yue got up as usual and, through the window, saw Zhao Xiyan practicing walking with crutches in the courtyard again.
She pouted and muttered to herself.
“He said he didn’t want to stand up, but he’s clearly very eager.”
She had decided last night that today she would start testing the medicinal value of the Panax Notoginseng and combine it with some other nerve-activating drugs to prepare a medicinal bath for Zhao Xiyan.
Without having found the White Rhino, this method might be somewhat effective, at the very least making sure his legs’ condition wouldn’t worsen.
So as not to reveal the source of the Panax Notoginseng, Qi Yue chose to process it within her space.
Now that she had a pharmacy, as long as she informed Shen Yu in advance, not even the supreme deities could bother her there.
In the space, the huge Panax Notoginseng had already been cleaned by her and was placed on the processing table.
All sorts of instruments were up and running, just waiting for a comprehensive analysis and testing on it.
Qi Yue put on her gloves and carefully made a cut in the Panax Notoginseng to remove a thin slice.
In the present world, people generally used processed Panax Notoginseng to brew soup or grind it into powder for drinking, but in fact, there are mysterious molecular formulas in fresh Panax Notoginseng that almost have the power to heal anything—it’s just difficult to extract.
Qi Yue’s mother, who was obsessed with researching the essence of traditional Chinese medicine, had discovered this using high-precision instruments.
After starting her medical practice, Qi Yue almost perfectly continued her mother’s work and even went further and deeper.
In her previous life, she had successfully extracted it once.
Now, she was even more confident.
A buzzing sound from the machines started, and the results for the Panax Notoginseng slice were already out.
Qi Yue looked at the high values on the screen and smiled in satisfaction.
This Panax Notoginseng was at least a few hundred years old, with effects surpassing her expectations; as long as it was used properly, its results would be better than imagined.
That day she had examined Zhao Xiyan’s legs and found that his left leg was in much better condition than the right.
At that moment, she had a bold idea: what if she concentrated all the medicinal power, could she heal Zhao Xiyan’s left leg first?
At the very least, if one leg could stand, then with the use of crutches, he could walk almost indistinguishably from a normal person!
But this was something she needed to discuss with Zhao Xiyan.
She controlled her excitement and began to methodically process the Panax Notoginseng.
Three shichen later, the basin-sized Panax Notoginseng had been turned into more than twenty bottles and jars.
Some parts she put into instruments for extracting essential molecules, while others were put into a drying machine to be turned into powder. Each part had its unique use, and even the roots were made into herbal bath packs by Qi Yue.
With everything in order, Qi Yue couldn’t ben wait to rest;she immediately started to concoct a medicinal bath prescription for Zhao Xiyan.
After she had finished deliberating over the prescription, the machines had also just completed their work.
She stored the extracted Panax Notoginseng molecules in the constant temperature medicine cabinet for preservation, the Panax Notoginseng powder as well, and only then did Qi Yue realize she had stayed in the space for almost half a day.
With a “gurgle,” her stomach protested.
Still pondering what she needed to discuss with Zhao Xiyan, she casually grabbed a bottle of milk and an apple from the kitchen to settle her hunger before leaving the space.
No sooner had she sat down in the pharmacy than she heard a commotion outside; it seemed someone had arrived.
To focus her attention, she had closed off her awareness to the outside world while in the space, and thus, she was unclear about what had happened outside.
Then she heard a woman’s voice rising urgently!
“Why hasn’t my sister come out yet? Has something happened to her?”
Sister?
Qi Yue raised her eyebrows and tiptoed to the window to look.
Ragged clothes, a yellowing little face, a pair of familiar enchanting eyes…
Who was this again?
She couldn’t immediately recall the name…
The daughter of Qi Fengzhang and Bai Jiahui, what was her name… Qi… Qi Baozhen, right…
What was she doing here?
These days, Qi Fengzhang had stayed away from her, so much so that she had almost forgotten there was such a person left unattended to.
“You better not talk nonsense, my elder sister-in-law is fine, she’s just busy,” came the voice of Zhao Shuanghua.
“You all live off my sister’s resources, depending on her for life, and yet you care so little for her! It’s been so long, don’t you worry she might faint from hunger inside?”
Qi Baozhen spoke with righteous indignation, as if she really did care that much, prompting Qi Yue to let out an involuntarily cold huff.
Being young, Zhao Shuanghua ran out of confidence under Qi Baozhen’s biting words.
“I, I’m sure nothing’s wrong with my sister-in-law; the pharmacy has food prepared, she won’t faint from hunger.”
“Such nice words, but why don’t you go in and check then? What if my sister suffers some misfortune? Can the Zhao Family afford this responsibility?”
This time, even Shen Yu’s face couldn’t hide the tension as she took a few steps towards the pharmacy and then stopped.
“Yueyue said she needed to do something important and no one should disturb her before she leaves.”
Seeing that Qi Baozhen was about to open her mouth and glare, about to say something nasty again, Qi Yue suddenly flung the door open.
“What dog is barking so harshly over there?”
“Yueyue.”
“Sister-in-law!”
Seeing her step out, the members of the Zhao Family all gathered around, clearly delighted to meet her.
Suddenly, Qi Baozhen let out a shrill scream and bustled over, pushing several people aside.
“…Sister——, you’ve finally come out; I’ve been waiting for you so desperately!”
Qi Baozhen seemed to be going in for a hug, so Qi Yue quickly closed the pharmacy door and sidestepped.
As a result, Qi Baozhen missed her embrace and instead collided with the door, pouting in pain.
“Sister, why did you dodge? I’m your sister!”
Qi Yue gave her a cold look and motioned for Zhao Shuanghua and the others to come over.
“Did you see that? These four are the sisters Qi Yue recognizes. You—are nothing! Hurry up and get out. You’re a nuisance!”
This was true.
Every time Qi Yue saw Qi Baozhen’s eyes, she would think of Bai Jiahui.
The malice of that woman still set Qi Yue’s heart ablaze with anger.
“Sister, must you be so cruel to your own family? You and I are the real relatives!”
Cruel?
Qi Yue almost laughed.
If it weren’t for that woman’s mother, she would still be the young miss of the General Residence, not needing to suffer here at all.
Ignoring Qi Baozhen, she turned to Shen Yu.
“Mother, where’s Zhao Xiyan? I need him for something.”
“Yanyan is in the resting room, he won’t even take a walk in the courtyard, just flips through those few worn-out books all day.”
“Fine, I’ll go find him.”
Qi Yue, after speaking, said to Zhao Shuanghua and the others, “Kick out this impostor who’s pretending to be my sister, and make sure she’s not allowed in next time.”
Zhao Shuanghua and the others never took a liking to Qi Baozhen, seeing Qi Yue dismiss her so bluntly and delivering a sharp rebuke instantly lifted their spirits.
“Sure thing, Sister-in-law! We’ll send her packing right now!”
Qi Baozhen, realizing the situation had turned against her, instantly tempered her arrogance and began to plead.
“Sister, don’t drive me away! Please save our father and older brother; they’re almost dying, we haven’t had food at home for days now, please have mercy on our family bond and save us.”
Qi Yue paused in her steps upon hearing this. Lately, there had been no news of anyone getting chopped by natives while burning wasteland, had there?
“What’s wrong with them?”
Amidst sobs, Qi Baozhen stuttered, “I don’t know, they both became unconscious when I woke up this morning!”
Qi Yue’s mouth twitched.
“They probably just can’t be bothered to get out of bed. You should just go home and call out to them a few times!”
She couldn’t be bothered to go looking for Qi Fengzhang; she knew he must be up to some trick again!
Having heard Qi Yue’s command, Zhao Shuanghua and the others briskly hustled Qi Baozhen out the door.
Qi Baozhen kept shouting from beyond the fence, but Qi Yue paid her no further mind, heading straight to the resting room to discuss with Zhao Xiyan about treating her leg.
