Chapter 581: It’s My Honor
A puzzled look crossed over Tong Sanlang’s handsome face. What’s going on here?
Qiao Xiaomai didn’t leave him guessing, she went straight to the point. “Actually, I’ve always had this sneaky idea in my heart.”
“What idea?” Tong Sanlang immediately asked.
“I wish they would make a fuss, a big fuss, so I would have a reason to propose a split in the household.” Qiao Xiaomai said this, slowly withdrawing her smile, bowing her head to fiddle with her fingers. “I know this idea isn’t right. They are your family and relatives. I should be like you, treating them as family.”
At this point, even Qiao Xiaomai’s voice lowed. “But I can’t do it. As a person, I’m actually quite indifferent to family affection. After coming here, there was a time when I came to town to sell a recipe for mung bean jelly. On our way back home, my dad was waiting for me at the entrance of the village with Dami.”
“It was then that I accepted them. But as for calling them family, no. I regard them more as my responsibility, two innocent and naive people that I should take care of.”
“So, a lot of the times I deal with problems in a simple and crude way. I deliberately upset my dad, made him feel uncomfortable and constantly deceived Dami, because it’s easier this way, it saves me a lot of trouble.”
“Maybe it’s because I’m fully focused on love, and I really don’t care much about family affection and friendship…”
“Even though I love you so much that I would want to live for you and die for you, I cannot treat them as family… So, when I heard Shopkeeper He’s words just now, I was only happy, because it gave me an excuse to propose a split in the household.”
“I do what I want, and even if it upsets you, I’ll still want to do it.”
Perhaps, she was really used to living alone, so when she considered things, she mainly thought about whether it was convenient or comfortable for herself.
She was not used to living with a large family.
She just wanted to live in a separate small courtyard with Tong Sanlang and to do those intimate things that couples in later generations commonly did.
As it stood now, only a small room belonged to her and Tong Sanlang. There was only a door separating them from the outside, she could hear the conversations outside clearly, she had to lower her voice when talking to Tong Sanlang, and she had to bite the quilt corner to suppress her voice during their passionate moments.
For her, such a situation was truly terrible and unaccustomed.
So, she was genuinely not angry. She secretly hoped that Zhu Hongyun would overstep the line even more.
However, exposing her dark and selfish side so frankly in front of Tong Sanlang made her feel nervous. The more she spoke, the lower her voice became, the more she spoke, the weaker her confidence was and by the end, her voice was almost a whisper.
Tong Sanlang stared at her blankly, then reached out and held her hand. “So, you’ve put all your emotional hopes in me?”
At his words, Qiao Xiaomai lifted her eyes to him, tilted her head slightly. A rare sense of trepidation appeared on her small face. “Yes.”
Tong Sanlang tightened his grip on her hand, smiled, and said, “I’m honoured, and I won’t let you down.”
At his words, Qiao Xiaomai’s eyes widened slightly.
Even though she had been prepared for this possibility, she was still surprised when Tong Sanlang really walked along the path she had envisioned.
Tong Sanlang looked at her small face, smiled, but his smile was tinged with bitterness. “Even if we don’t live together, we are still family. Deep down, I want our family to be as harmonious as before, but reality tells me it’s impossible.”
