My Ex-Husband Is Proposing Again

Chapter 42 - 42: Drunk-1

“Who is the lady accompanying Mr. Ye?” A slightly overweight middle-aged man couldn’t help but voice the question that was on everyone’s minds.

“My secretary, Su Hongxing,” Ye Qilan responded indifferently.

The middle-aged man nodded in understanding, “So she’s Mr. Ye’s secretary.”

He had been thinking that, no matter how peculiar Ye Qilan’s tastes might be, he wouldn’t pick a fat woman as a lover.

Beichuan’s gaze kept drifting towards Su Hongxing.

He found this woman quite strange. She seemed able to face anyone comfortably not favoring him, even thinking Ye Qilan could shield her large body.

He considered himself charismatic and desirable, with countless women vying for his attention, and yet today, he had been dismissed by an unattractive woman— a blow to his male pride.

Not favoring him, huh? He was determined to impose his presence on her.

“This is Director Wu of the Urban Construction Bureau. Su, as Sisi’s little secretary, shouldn’t you toast a drink to him?”

Beichuan’s malicious teasing caused some women waiting for Su Hongxing to mess up burst into giggles.

The woman beside Beichuan even prodded him in the chest, “Beichuan, you’re so naughty. How could you call Su a little secretary? She isn’t responsible for pleasing anyone.”

Being Ye Qilan’s ‘little secretary’ required certain qualifications.

“Don’t you just love my mischievousness?” Beichuan’s wicked smile deepened as he turned to Su Hongxing, urging, “Secretary Su, why haven’t you toasted Director Wu yet?”

Such an unpleasant woman, stiff like a piece of wood.

Su Hongxing glanced at Beichuan, picked up her drink and walked over to

Director Wu, saying, “Director Wu, I toast to you.”

Having said this, she downed her drink without batting an eyelid.

The others seeing this, burst into applause. They all realized that Su Hongxing could really hold her liquor.

After the first toast, the situation became uncontrollable.

Su Hongxing didn’t particularly enjoy drinking, but she did have a remarkably high alcohol tolerance.

Even so, her tolerance was no match for the onslaught of toasting challenges from everyone gathered.

“Your secretary seems to be quite entertaining,” Beichuan glanced at Su Hongxing, who was clearly tipsy yet still trying to appear sober, and whispered to Ye Qilan.

He was also using this opportunity to probe the relationship between Ye Qilan and Su Hongxing. At first glance, it seemed clear Su Hongxing was just an ordinary secretary, with no ties to Ye Qilan’s personal life.

At this moment, another man approached Su Hongxing, “Secretary Su, you really can drink, I’m impressed. Allow me to toast to you…”

Su Hongxing’s eyes began to redden, and as she raised her glass to drink again, a man’s hand reached over and took her glass away. “You’ve had too much.”

Su Hongxing turned to look at him, her look dazed and expression blank.

Seeing her in that state, Ye Qilan gently touched her face, “If you’re not feeling well, lay down a while over there. Once I’ve finished discussing important business, we can leave.”

Su Hongxing nodded and managed to stand up. She looked left and right, then noticing Beichuan was in her way, she took the long way around to the other side and entered the resting room, closing her eyes to rest.

As soon as Ye Qilan began to speak, everyone else intuitively quieted down. Not because anything specific had happened, but because they had never seen Ye Qilan shield a woman from drinking at a social gathering—Su Hongxing was the first.

Beichuan, who fancied himself as one of Ye Qilan’s close childhood friends, was stunned.

Ye Qilan was a lady-killer with many women under his spell, yet few had managed to earn his compassion.

Tonight, Su Hongxing had effortlessly managed just that!
