The Divine Wolf... or?

Chapter 216: Crisis!

He had no idea about the strength of his opponents before he rushed in, he was just worried about his mom. If he knew they were this troublesome, he would\'ve thought about his attack a little more instead of just blindly rushing in by himself.

On Ephine\'s side of the battlefield, things were starting to heat up. She had used light magic to try and get rid of the undead in the vicinity when she noticed that something was wrong. The undead, which were supposed to be very weak against light magic, seemed to have some sort of resistance.

Ephine had never heard about undead with resistance to light magic since that was supposed to be the only weakness they had.

With their only real weakness gone, the undead would be a lot more annoying to deal with, but Ephine wasn\'t discouraged. She still had an affinity to most other elements, and although they might be a little less effective, she could still crush them with absolute strength. The only real problem would probably be the undead dragon with a death knight on its back.

Ephine could tell that the armour it was wearing was of the light element. This was something that was supposed to be impossible, but after seeing it with her own eyes, it wasn\'t like she could outright deny it.

Before she could think about a way to deal with the death knight, Adam took a step forward.

"O great spirit of the wind, grant me your eternal strength; Wind Supremacy!"

With a chant, the wind mana in the surroundings completely merged into his body, becoming one with Adam. This amount of mana was way beyond what most humans could ever contain, but Adam was just standing there with a smile on his face. Using wind magic now would be practically impossible unless the mage had an impressive amount of mana in their body.

All of the wind mana in the air was gone after all. It would naturally recover after a while, but for now, Adam was the ruler of the wind.

His originally blue eyes had turned azure green, and wind circulated around his entire body; he resembled a human tornado. With a power that was incomparable to before, Adam started to battle the death knight with the light attribute armour. Because of his fighting spirit, he had completely forgotten about Ephine and left her to fend for herself.

Although she was baffled, she didn\'t complain or say anything.

This was already something that was outside of the pay that they had given Adam, even if he were to run away, they wouldn\'t really be able to blame him. Adam\'s battle took to the skies as the undead dragon tried to keep its distance from him to no real avail. Ephine knew that she wouldn\'t be able to hold out for long with her current reserve of mana, but she was still going to try her best.

If Thufrat or Adam managed to win their battles, then she would probably be able to survive. No matter how slim the actual chance was, Ephine was far from discouraged. She couldn\'t get discouraged yet, they hadn\'t even found Ark yet. What kind of family would they be if they just gave up on one of their family members when they were so close to success?

The undead were not really a problem, and Ephine blasted them away without wasting too much mana whenever they came close, the real issue was the demons. The Taurens took hits like they were nothing, and to get rid of one, Ephine needed to expend a considerable amount of mana. The black-horned demons were also trouble, as their speed made them too hard to hit.

Ephine could naturally deal with them too, but, once again, it cost her too much mana.

This, as well as the imps hurling spells at her all the time made her mana consumption shoot through the roof. As more and more time passed, her situation became more and more precarious. Adam was pushing the death knight back, but killing it would take some time, time that Ephine didn\'t currently have.

Thufrat wasn\'t as strong as Adam, which meant that expecting help from him probably wasn\'t a great idea.

Ephine didn\'t care too much for her own well-being, but seeing Atar getting suppressed made her anxious, which in turn expended her mana even faster. Seeing him surrounded prompted Ephine to use more and more spells, with escalating destructiveness, this drained her mana even more. Soon, less than ten minutes later, Ephine could feel her mana reserves drying up completely.

She currently didn\'t even have enough mana to throw a single spell. Standing in the midst of undead without mana was practically a death wish, and Ephine could feel the scent of death in the air.

The lich had been keeping an eye on her for a while now, and it was desperately waiting for an opportunity to strike. It would never forget the humiliation she had brought him today, and if it could strike her down on its own, it would feel a lot more comfortable. With a wave of its hand, a small wave of dark mana slowly but surely made its way over to Ephine.

The dark mana was faint, and would normally be easily destroyed by Ephine, but there was nothing she could do to defend herself without any mana. She could only hope that her body would be able to withstand the lich\'s attack without any major problems. To her surprise and utter confusion, the mana just silently entered her body through her ears, nose, and mouth, much like a gas.

The mana didn\'t go on a rampage immediately, but Ephine could feel an immense discomfort as well as a dull pain permeate throughout her entire body. The dull pain grew more and more intense with time, and it quickly reached a point where Ephine could no longer stand up. To Atar\'s dismay, he could all of a sudden see his own mother lying on the ground, yelping in agony.

She had reverted into her wolf form again, as she could no longer sustain the transformation. Luckily, she could withstand the agony a little better in her wolf form, since her body was a bit more durable.

To everyone\'s surprise, neither the undead nor the demons touched Ephine, however, this brought with itself a new set of problems. Since Ephine wasn\'t occupying them, the undead and the demons went for the other 4, quickly increasing the pressure on them significantly.

The other problem was that the undead and demons didn\'t care for Ephine anymore, didn\'t this mean that they basically saw her as dead already? Before anyone could get too distressed, something shocking happened that would come to change the situation entirely...
