Awakening the Daily Intelligence System

Chapter 86: 85, there are too many rich people in this world, who do you think you are? (Chapter 23 update) !

“Husband, you should sleep for a bit, too, or your body won’t hold up. You can’t afford to collapse.”

“I’ll go rent two reclining chairs from the nurses’ station.”

In this critical care unit, there are only two hospital beds in total.

Family members who want to keep vigil typically need to rent a reclining chair at night, or they simply lay out a mat on the floor to sleep next to the patient’s bed.

By the next morning, before the nurses’ shift change and rounds, everything must be cleared away to ensure the ward is clean and tidy.

Lin Mo shook his head: “I’m not sleepy. How could I sleep at a time like this? You’re pregnant; you should have gone back with mom and dad just now.”

“If our daughter can’t rest easy, how can I?” Li Jinwen said somberly.

Lin Mo nodded, not saying much more. After a pause, he added, “I’ll go rent two reclining chairs first, then I’ll go see the on-duty director and ask—maybe we can apply for a special care ward. And I’ll look for an expert, even if it costs more.”

Although he knew the likelihood of exchanging money for a better ward or finding a genuine expert was slim, Lin Mo still wanted to try.

Doing nothing but sitting idly by was just too unbearable.

“Great! If possible, it’s alright to spend more money!”

“We can always earn money again!”

Li Jinwen nodded emphatically, “You go find the director first; we can worry about the reclining chairs later. I can’t sleep right now anyway.”

“Alright, but if you get tired, don’t try to be strong. Remember, you’re not alone right now!”

“I understand. I won’t stubbornly risk my health over this!”

“Okay, I’m going now!”

Lin Mo took a deep breath and turned to leave the ward.

With the sudden bad news, Lin Mo’s mind had been in utter chaos for a long time.

Only recently had he begun to gradually calm down.

He started to think and deal with matters.

The most urgent priority right now was to find a way to secure better medical conditions for his family.

Only by doing so could he ensure they would survive.

And only if they survived, would there be meaning to it all!

First, Lin Mo stopped by the nurses’ station to ask for the location of the on- duty director’s office. After getting the information, he headed straight for the comprehensive building.

This public hospital was large, being the biggest in North City District, and even considered significant throughout Rakshasa City.

Lin Mo strode swiftly, almost jogging, but it still took him a good fifteen minutes to get from the inpatient department to the comprehensive building, mostly due to waiting for the elevator.

By the time Lin Mo stood in front of the on-duty director’s office, it was nearly midnight.

“Phew…”

Lin Mo exhaled a breath of stale air and knocked on the door.

After a long wait, a lazy male voice came from inside.

By the sound of it, the voice belonged to someone of advanced age.

“Come in.”

Lin Mo didn’t hesitate and pushed the door open.

The office was small and neatly arranged, with little besides a desk and a row of bookcases; there was also a single bed in the corner.

This was the duty office, used to receive patients, so naturally, there was no luxury to speak of.

The director was a balding elderly man around 60, corpulent and yawning, seemingly just roused from sleep.

Although patients with any issues could consult the director,

most people had enough sense to know that, without the right connections, the director of a large public hospital wouldn’t give you the time of day. Seeking consultation would be a fruitless endeavor.

Upon entering the office, Lin Mo didn’t let the sorrow for his family show on his face; displaying such grief would only earn more disdain. Instead, he courteously greeted, “Director Song, hello.”

Director Song glanced at Lin Mo.

He was over 60 years old and had climbed to the position of director at Rakshasa Public Hospital, calling him a shrewd person wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

With just a cursory look, he could tell Lin Mo wasn’t someone worth cultivating a deep relationship with.

Yawning languidly, he put on his glasses and said indifferently, “Hmm, hello, what can I do for you? Please, sit down and talk.”

Lin Mo walked to the desk, sat down with an assertive yet respectful attitude, and said, “Director Song, the thing is, my parents and sister were in a car accident and are currently being treated in your hospital.”

“The accident was very serious, and their conditions aren’t looking good. I’m here because I want to apply for a stay in the special care ward. I’ve already asked the doctors, and they also say that a better environment would be more conducive to their recovery.”

“As for the cost, you don’t need to worry, I can afford it—even if it’s a bit more expensive, I have no objections.”

When he heard about the request for a special ward, Director Song’s brows furrowed.

It was that kind of issue again.

In this society, with a little money, everyone wants special treatment.

What are we supposed to do with every Tom, Dick, and Harry asking for special treatment? How can the hospital continue to operate?

Don’t they even stop to consider their own significance?

A special ward, is that something you normal folks with a bit of money can stay in?

Is it really about the money?

If everyone with money stayed there, what would happen if a big shot needed the room?

Though he felt many grievances inside, as the director representing the hospital, he naturally couldn’t speak too harshly, lest he caused a disturbance, “Sir, although I’m not sure where you’ve heard about this special ward, I can’t say about other hospitals, but here, I can responsibly tell you that there’s no such ward.”

Lin Mo frowned slightly, but didn’t rush to argue.

Director Song continued, “First of all, I sympathize with your situation, but this isn’t about money. Public hospitals are different from private ones. Public hospitals are set up by the state, with many rules and regulations. There are too many wealthy patients who come here; if everyone wanted special treatment, what about the ordinary people?”

“So, such a thing, I’m afraid I cannot help you with.”

“But rest assured, no matter what kind of ward your family stays in, the doctors in our hospital will do their utmost, with the most dedicated spirit and the best treatment attitude, to save your family’s lives.”

Director Song spoke eloquently, beautifully, and politely.

But the underlying message was clear, what special ward? There isn’t one!

It was also impossible to transfer wards.

He didn’t even need to investigate whether Lin Mo had any background.

Impossible!

Because any real big shot with real clout wouldn’t even need to come in person to his office—usually, a phone call would suffice.

And for regular patients, no matter how rich, it made no difference.

If something is out of your reach, it remains out of reach.

There are too many wealthy people in this world, so what are you in comparison?

Having money? At most, it means that when using medications, you don’t need to consider if they are on the insurance list and can opt for more expensive, foreign drugs with better effectiveness.

Lin Mo had already spoken to the doctors about this point, and they were happy to use the good drugs.

Why wouldn’t they? It increases the hospital’s revenue, the department’s bonus, and their own efficiency in treating patients.

Such an outcome was something Lin Mo had prepared for mentally.

Although he had twenty million in hand, that amount of money wasn’t significant in Rakshasa City.

Yet, for his family’s sake, he was not quite willing to give up and wanted to strive as much as possible, “Director Song, could you please make an exception? If you can allow my family to stay in the special ward, I’m willing to offer you a separate reward of one million!”

One million just for bending the rules a bit.

Lin Mo felt that this was an exceedingly high reward.
