Emperor's Domination

Chapter 5970: Devotion

Chapter 5970: Devotion

No one could answer since Insane Gate was too small to have contact with a behemoth like Enigma. Grand Emperors and above lived in another world.

“Either way, we know that this ancestor adores Young Noble Li and has a high position in Enigma. We need to tread carefully because the consequences will be unimaginable.” The first elder said.

Everyone nodded in agreement. Given the value of an ancient dragon crystal, the ancestor must be at the imperial level.

Moreover, she gave it to a mortal descendant - a testament to her love.

“If we can unite with the Chu again, we’ll become far stronger with the backing of that ancestor.” The first elder suggested.

Other elders nodded their head in agreement while the king snorted without commenting. The latter was prideful due to being pampered and respected all this time. For him to go and flatter a skilless mortal? This was shameful and unbecoming of someone with his talent and power.

Li Qiye’s group made it to Li Shrine. [1]

It was a Buddhist convent, small yet built exquisitely with each brick carefully chosen. The color of the structure gradually turned gray from perpetual weathering through the years, making people wonder if it could collapse soon.

It was quiet and deserted with no one around outside of servants dedicated to cleaning and lighting incense sticks. However, it held immense significance in the past.

“The place where Virtuous King resided after retiring, it was revered during the end of Insane Court.” Incense Daoist remarked with a sigh.

Albeit unremarkable now nestled between trees, Grand Emperors came to offer their respect for generations.

“I believe during Insane Court’s prime, Virtuous King rarely came out and no longer worried about its business.” Edge Mountain Crone said.

“Yes, the king was not unstoppable militarily like the commander but her unmatched wisdom and governance heralded prosperity and stability. Then we had the guardian making up the trio, their tales were legendary, praised and emulated by many sects subsequently. Though she had the final authority, she never sought to suppress the commander and allowed her to have full command over the armies. Of course, the commander didn’t let down by trying to usurp. As far as I know, the strongest among them was the guardian, he was loyal and only focused on protecting Insane Court.” Incense Daoist responded.

The trio had their own responsibilities and missions. Trust and loyalty bound them together, hence Insane Court’s success.

“It’s a shame that the king abdicated early, or Insane Court could still be around. Many thought one of the ten great lineages could last in perpetuity under her reign, it caught everyone by surprise.” He continued “I’ve read a scroll talking about her wanting to rest her mind to preserve lifespan.”

As for Li Qiye, he stared at the entrance and read the characters on both sides - Sir Li on one side and Remember on the other.

“Sir Li, I who is that?” She asked.

The daoist shrugged and said: “I did stay at Insane Gate for a while to read their records. They mentioned the king having someone in her heart, her abdication might be due to this Sir Li, dedicating the rest of her life to him until the end.”

“Quite a lucky guy, to be loved and cherished by someone who thinks of him at every moment.” She sighed.

“Hmm, might not be that lucky.” He chuckled.

“Watch your words, respect the king even though she is no longer with us.” She glared in response.

“No, you misunderstood, I didn’t mean it as a bad thing.” He waved his hand.

“Then what did you mean?” She uttered coldly.

“You know my hobby is to read for entertainment and I was particularly interested in this matter, so I did some research.” He said: “Tell me, what kind of person is Virtuous King?”

“Matchless in literature and governance.” She said.

“More than just that, Insane Court during its prime was not inferior to Immortal Suppression of today. She had numerous capable officials and commanders.” He said.

“True.” She nodded.

“No records of betrayal were found, so she must have been just as powerful, perhaps not as much as the heavenly commander but certainly above the apex realm. What kind of man could warrant such devotion from her?” He asked.

“I haven’t thought about it before.” She said.

“She retreated here, eating vegetarian and chanting Buddhist scriptures for him until death, is this not true love?” He continued.

“Yes, she contributed the remainder of her life to him.” She said.

“It shows how wonderful and exceptional the man must have been, she couldn’t forget him despite all of her achievements in life.” He continued.

“It sounds like you know who he is.” She stared intensely at him.

“Nope, I’m just speculating.” The daoist shook his head.
