Married to the Protagonist

Chapter 49: Hey, who’s this? (2)

But Zhou Chao offends a lot of people in his daily life and has a host of enemies. How could he know who did it? He can yell all he wants, but he can’t really do anything about it.

When Zhou Xue went to see him a few days later, he was still thinking about trying to pull connections with Yan Cheng, but he was currently disabled and couldn’t get out of the hospital.

After much thought, he still decided to grasp at his last straw, Zhou Xue.

“It’ll definitely be more effective if you ask instead of me.”

——————————————

Friday, a day with good weather for once.

After taking her surgical mask off and returning to the office, she breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back into her office chair. She tried to find a comfortable position but couldn’t really find one so she raised her arms to stretch out her spine. Her eyelashes quivered and she glanced at the green plant right next to her computer, instantly dissipating her fatigue. She felt refreshed. It’s time for her weekend break again.

There was still some time before work ended. She daydreamed for a while, eyes fixed to a certain point as if in thought. After a while, she came back to herself and slowly looked away. Her whims were completely unconcealed when she grabbed her phone off the table.

Chen Jinyao: “I’ve decided to inspect your Er Pavilion tonight.”

She was practically going through the same schedule each day, especially during work. This life was starting to feel dull, and when the dullness became unbearable, it triggered her wish to seek excitement. Plus, they already agreed upon this before.

Yan Cheng was quite surprised. “So suddenly?”

After looking at the reply, Chen Jinyao’s lips curved into a lazy smile and she raised a brow, quickly typing out, “You could also call it a surprise inspection.”

Yan Cheng laughed. “Then you shouldn’t have told me if it was a surprise inspection.”

He was at the Er Pavilion right now, leaned over the railing on the second floor and overlooking the scenery downstairs. It was still early so the guests at the Er Pavilion were scarce and scattered.

The manager called the part-time workers to the side, told them what they should and shouldn’t do, and to behave themselves.

Ah Tai was standing at the side, straight as a pine tree with his lips pursed.

Yan Cheng retrieved his thoughts and asked, “Need me to pick you up from the clinic?”

Chen Jinyao quickly replied, vetoing his proposal. “No need. I need to take a trip home first. I’ll drive over myself.”

“Alright.” He respected her decision.

He waited for a while but didn’t receive any other messages from Chen Jinyao.

Yan Cheng put his phone away and squinted into the distance. He was silent for a few seconds, then he took his cigarette box and lighter out from his pocket, took one out, and lit it. It flickered with a faint spark in the dim environment. Breathing out a ring of smoke, he glanced sideways at Ah Tai. “Come with me. I want to hear the details.”

Yan Cheng did not expect Ah Tai to hire someone to beat Zhou Chao up.

And what made him want to laugh more was that Ah Tai would actually take the initiative to confess after all these days despite there being no need for it.

Idly, Yan Cheng thought about it and cooperated with him.

Not many people understood Ah Tai. If he came out from the underworld, then he really didn’t seem like the guy who would be able to work properly in a bar without incident. Only, Yan Cheng was kind to him in the past, and that was enough for him to follow Yan Cheng’s lead.

And him beating Zhou Chao really was a matter of chance.
