Married to the Protagonist

Chapter 9: Rumors (1)

Beautiful, cunning, and loveable, everything about Du Ni was perfect. It’s just that it didn’t like Yan Cheng. Whenever the man approached, the cat would bare its teeth at him, as if asking for a fight. Perhaps in its mind, Yan Cheng was a third party who appeared out of nowhere to interrupt the intimacy between the cat and its master.

And yet the three of them were doomed to live together.

“I’ll make this cat acknowledge me.”

Yan Cheng finally got angry when Chen Jinyao buried her face in her pillow, unable to hold her laughter.

During the rest of his stay at home, Yan Cheng was confident that he could change his relationship with the cat member of his family by trying to get along with it day and night.

Chen Jinyao shrugged her shoulders. She reminded him with a smile: “First of all, you shouldn’t call him a stupid cat. Don’t think that Du Ni doesn’t it.”

Yan Cheng glanced at her with more indifference. He then pinched the cat’s neck and lifted it up slightly; the man and cat stared at each other. Du Ni struggled hard, looking as if he wanted to land another scratch at him. Meanwhile, Yan Cheng slackened his grip and teased: “Du Ni is a small beast.”

“…”

It snowed for several days.

The branches on both sides of the road were bent downwards and the cemented road was covered in a thick layer of snow. A vehicle drove past, leaving two obvious tracks. The fresh trail seemed to open the path for other cars to drive through in the snow.

At 4:30 pm, Chen Jinyao finished her work at the clinic, removed her white coat, and cleaned up before preparing to leave work. As she passed by the duty room, she paused by the door and greeted the nurse on duty with a smile.

This was Chen Jinyao’s clinic–a dental clinic. She was a dentist.

After graduating from her major, she became a professional.

Chen Jinyao opened the glass door and walked outside. The biting wind was as sharp as a knife, causing her to shiver and stamp her feet as she gasped.

She trotted to the parking lot and as soon as she got in the car, her cellphone rang.

It might be Yan Cheng, but when she checked the screen, it turned out to be her sister Chen Jinlin.

“Sister!” Chen Jinlin trembled in excitement.

Hearing the young woman’s enthusiastically loud voice, Chen Jinyao subconsciously held her cellphone away from her ears and frowned: “What’re you shouting for?”

Chen Jinlin apparently didn’t pay attention to her scolding. It was difficult to understand what she was trying to say: “Sister, you’re really amazing!”

Only

“What do you mean?” Chen Jinyao raised the heater and held the steering wheel with her other hand.

“Sister, is your husband obedient to you?” Chen Jinlin was now at the age where she could go out without supervision and hang around friends of the same age. After all, she was young. Chen Jinlin was different from Chen Jinyao who distanced herself from the upper social circles. No, this younger sister was the kind who listened to drunken gossip and hung around crowds. “Elder Sister, do you know what everyone else is saying about you right now?”

“…” Is someone spreading rumors behind my back?

“They all say you’re a tigress who puts strict rules on brother-in-law. One lady boasted about you in front of me, saying you’re good at your husband.” After a pause, she pressed the topic on her elder sister and said with a mysterious voice: “Sister, did you take advantage of brother-in-law’s sleeping time to blacklist some ambiguous contact numbers?”

Chen Jinyao: “…” Something’s not right.

Only mothers, close relatives or a sibling would know if she ‘managed’ her husband.

Are these rumors aimed at demonizing her image?

Blacklisting contact numbers. From what she recalls, only Zhou Xue’s number was blacklisted under her sight. Chen Jinyao rested her chin on her palm as she started to make some guesses.
