Transmigrating into the Male Supporting Character’s Ex-wife

Chapter 48

Not only that, Jiacheng also didn’t suffer any reputational damage from how they had covered up his identity.

Instead, Cheng Jun’s photo caused a massive army of female fans to rise up. They stormed over to Jiacheng’s official blog to spam “Hubby” and beg Cheng Jun to make a public appearance. The level of fanaticism that they demonstrated could be categorized as belonging to a celebrity with a massive following of hardcore stans.

The official blog was silent for a long while before making a short post.

It was a single sticker that read: Don’t even think about it.

At the same time, there was a comment praising Cheng Jun for already being married for a few years. His wife was the skilled artist Fat Birds Fly First and the two of them had been a two-key couple throughout their marriage, neither of them ever revealing anything regarding his identity. Once again, a crowd of people ran over to Fat Birds Fly First’s weibo to ask for confirmation. After running in circles and staring at Ruan Jiu Jiu’s weibo updates, many of them unexpectedly were converted into her fans.

Thus, outside of Ruan Jiu Jiu’s notice, she gained a new appellation.

“Hot CEO’s pampered wife”

Ruan Jiu Jiu who saw this nickname when she came online: “…”

The company’s employees were even more astonished. They originally thought Ruan Jiu Jiu was just a paratrooper who had some connections with Tu Nan. Who would have expected that she was actually the wife of the legendary behind-the-scenes boss???

This was too benevolent! They were so low-key that none of them had any inkling!

In other words, the boss’s wife worked alongside them, yet they didn’t even cherish this opportunity and instead pressured her to drink with them.

When they recalled that day that Cheng Jun brought Ruan Jiu Jiu home, and the expression on his face that wasn’t very good, the handful of employees who had forced drinks on her practically looked green in the face. For multiple nights in a row, they wrote self-reflections, begging their boss to pass it on to Tu Nan.

In comparison, the real big boss lived comfortably and leisurely at home…

…drinking two bowls of plain white congee.

“…”

Ruan Jiu Jiu’s skills were very good, so even originary plain white congee, when paired with sour and salty little side dishes, was something you could shovel down your throat in great quantities. But he couldn’t endure eating porridge for meal after meal on end, every single day, eating so much that Cheng Jun himself seemed to turn into a bowl of porridge.

Ruan Jiu Jiu, on the contrary, was doing great. She made an exception for herself and ate whatever she wanted. While slurping down a bowl of noodles, she exhorted Cheng Jun not to eat too many of the pickled vegetables as it wasn’t good for his injury.

On that same day, Cheng Jun brought up his request again for the hundredth time: “Let’s go to the hospital, I think my injuries have healed.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu responded in a bad temper, “It’s only been two days, are you a god?”

It was hard to say whether he was a god, but if he kept going on like this, he might very well turn into a demon.

Cheng Jun let out a faint sigh.

Ruan Jiu Jiu noticed that he was staring at her noodles and hugged her bowl protectively. “Am I disturbing you? Then I’ll go back to my room to eat.”

Cheng Jun: “No need. After you’re done let’s go to the hospital.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “…”

What exactly was this guy planning? Wasn’t he the same guy who just two days prior, kept shouting about how much it hurt?

One person drank porridge as the other slurped noodles. Ruan Jiu Jiu one-sidedly thought that this was a very harmonious scene.

After dinner, Cheng Jun washed the dishes and then leisurely headed towards the bathroom with his towel before he was blocked by Ruan Jiu Jiu. In an upright manner, Ruan Jiu Jiu stated, “Didn’t you promise me that you wouldn’t take a bath for these few days? Your wounds will get infected.”

It was fine to skip showering for a day, but after going two days without a bath, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was a smell like his body was getting moldy.

Cheng Jun said, “I’ll get smelly.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu’s response was very matter-of-fact. “Then just be smelly. Isn’t there a term called stinky guys? If you can’t even stand your own smell, how can you expect others to stand it?”

Cheng Jun was struck speechless.

He couldn’t even come up with a response???

The two of them commenced a tussle, until finally Cheng Jun compromised, agreeing to Ruan Jiu Jiu that he would just wash himself slightly but wouldn’t wash his hair. Therefore, Cheng Jun demanded that Ruan Jiu Jiu help wash his hair.

Washing hair was just a simple matter, so Ruan Jiu Jiu didn’t give it much thought before agreeing.

Cheng Jun showered slightly, so his skin was damp. He put on pajamas and stood in the bathroom. Both he and Ruan Jiu Jiu who had just entered turned their gazes away and just stared at their surroundings. Even though the two of them had lived together for a long time, Ruan Jiu Jiu had never been inside Cheng Jun’s bathroom. It was much cleaner than she had expected, with sea-blue tiles, a shiny polished mirror and neat rack for toiletries and other items. There weren’t many things placed on it but everything was arranged in an orderly fashion.

“Woah, your bathroom’s quite pretty.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu held the shower head and patted Cheng Jun’s neck to signal him to lower his head. He obediently lowered his head but he was very tall, so the sink bowl didn’t come up high enough and the whole scene looked a bit wonky.

Ruan Jiu Jiu muttered under her breath, “What’s the point of growing so tall.”

“To compliment you.”

Hearing that, Ruan Jiu Jiu was dumbstruck. She immediately put on a fierce look and pressed his neck down. “Now isn’t the time to be naughty. Stand properly, I’m going to turn on the hot water!”

Sure enough, Ruan Jiu Jiu shouldn’t have thought too much of Cheng Jun. From the start of the hair washing process to the end, there wasn’t a single peaceful moment.

“The water’s too hot.”

“There’s not enough water.”

“It’s cold, turn it hotter a bit.”

“The shampoo…”

“Shut up!” Ruan Jiu Jiu was a bit menacing.

Cheng Jun who had his head held his tongue, and then after a period of time, slowly said, “The shampoo’s gotten in my eye.”

“Ah Ah Ah Sorry! What’s your problem, why didn’t you say so earlier?!”

“…”

After washing his hair, Ruan Jiu Jiu helped him dry his hair with the hairdryer. She turned on the hot air and lightly blew Cheng Jun’s hair. Cheng Jun’s hair appeared a bit messy with a slight curl at its ends. The black strands looked like they would be soft to the touch, but when you felt it gave your hand a stiff and prickly sensation. Ruan Jiu Jiu pulled his hair this way and that way like she was shucking corn, in order to help it dry faster.

The sound of Cheng Jun’s voice was very low. “It is okay to ask why?”

The sound of the hairdryer was a bit loud, so Ruan Jiu Jiu said, “Why what? Speak up a bit.”

“Why you feel like it would be disastrous.”

“Pa!”

The hairdryer’s cord was a bit short and when Ruan Jiu Jiu yanked on it slightly, it suddenly came out of the socket. The buzzing noise that it had been making just then suddenly vanished, so coincidentally she could distinctly hear what Cheng Jun said.

It took a few seconds before Ruan Jiu Jiu could react. Cheng Jun was apparently talking about their conversation at the hospital that day.

It could be said that the time it took this guy’s brain to respond to stimuli was extremely long. Two days had passed yet unexpectedly he could still recall that matter and bring it up. Ruan Jiu Jiu truly admired him.

His hair was pretty much dry. Ruan Jiu Jiu rubbed his dog head and bundled back up the hairdryer’s cord.

“I understand your way of thinking. Men have their egos, so even if it’s just a hypothetical possibility, they’ll still care about…something like that. The reasoning is very simple; because there’s no feelings between us, if feelings emerged that would be disastrous.”

To make a comparison, Ruan Jiu Jiu’s feelings for Cheng Jun were more like the kind you have for a friend, a relative, a special kind of person you could depend on.

But at the same time, Ruan Jiu Jiu had been very rational. She had always understood that she had to control herself with regards to romantic feelings, in order to avoid receiving unnecessary hurt.

She demanded of herself a high degree of restraint to avoid committing any missteps, and she believed that Cheng Jun was even more so this way. It was because Cheng Jun’s temperament didn’t have an emotional dependency on others, that he would pay special attention to her. There were too few women in his life, which caused him to think that her presence was relatively special.

If Cheng Jun changed to a different environment, he definitely wouldn’t feel that she had any aspects that were worth making him need her.

That was what Ruan Jiu Jiu had believed all this time.

If it was cooking, there were mountains of people who were better cooks than her. If it was art, she wasn’t actually an irreplaceable person. If a company as large as Jiacheng wished to find creative artists, it was practically a piece of cake. If it was her looks, that was an even bigger joke. This old mug of hers didn’t even look as good as Cheng Jun’s. If he wanted, there would be no shortage of outstanding young women that were willing to line up to wait for him.

She didn’t have a good temper, she hated to lose, and she even constantly threatened Cheng Jun. Even that depended on Cheng Jun’s good temper to pass. She had a pile of faults and shortcomings. If Cheng Jun could fall in love with her, that could only mean something was wrong.

Even though Ruan Jiu Jiu’s mouth was always poking fun at how a bastard like Cheng Jun was somehow able to attract woman that couldn’t bear to give him up, in her heart she was very clear that a man as outstanding as Cheng Jun wasn’t someone that she, an ordinary person, could catch and hold onto.

Thus, from beginning to end, even though occasionally there were times when she would be mesmerized by that face of his, she had never once thought of Cheng Jun in that way.

“Don’t worry your silly little head over it Cheng Jun. If you really do find a woman that you think isn’t bad, you gotta hurry up and grab ahold of her, after all you aren’t a kid anymore.” Ruan Jiu Jiu put the hairdryer back into a drawer and continued, “It isn’t really a good thing for me to keep mooching off of you, isn’t that right?”

Cheng Jun was silent for a long time.

“No, that’s wrong.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu had taken a few steps forward and didn’t hear him clearly. She paused blankly for a moment before turning her head back. “What did you say?”

“I said…”

“Ding ding ding…”

The sound of the phone’s ringtone interrupted Cheng Jun’s words. He picked up his phone, and seeing that it was a call from Tu Nan, answered.

“Boss, there’s people leaking bad things about Sister-in-law. I looked into it briefly, it should be from Ruifang. Don’t let Sister-in-law go online, she’ll definitely feel upset if she sees it.”

Of course, it’d be best if Cheng Jun didn’t see it either.

The rumors online spread quickly with much hubbub. Many people who called themselves former classmates and good friends of Ruan Jiu Jiu came out to testify that Ruan Jiu Jiu’s private life was very messy and indecent. After getting married she still ran around everywhere flirting and teasing others. Jiacheng’s big boss unknowingly wore a green hat, looking like a total idiot.

The posts were supplemented with a few very realistic looking composite photos that even managed to give Tu Nan a scare when he saw them, thinking that Sister-in-law really did do something like that.

Cheng Jun’s tone of voice was very flat. “Alright, I know.”

After saying that, he hung up the phone.

Ruan Jiu Jiu asked, “Did something happen?” She could see from Cheng Jun’s expression that he wasn’t happy.

Cheng Jun stood up and grabbed Ruan Jiu Jiu’s arm. He led her over to sit on the sofa in the living room and then pressed a few times on his phone screen. When he passed it over to Ruan Jiu Jiu, on his phone screen was the game Anipop.

Ruan Jiu Jiu was a bit confused. “What are you doing?”

“Play this until you reach level 20.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “???”

Cheng Jun reached into his pocket and pulled out Ruan Jiu Jiu’s phone. “Cheating is forbidden.”

Ruan Jiu Jiu expressed, are you joking? Anipop is the kind of game that even three-year-olds know how to play, getting to level 20 is a piece of cake.

Taking her phone with him, Cheng Jun entered the study. Ruan Jiu Jiu had never been concerned about Cheng Jun looking through her phone, and set about playing the game with single-minded devotion. How could she let Cheng Jun look down on her because of a game like this?

An hour later.

Ruan Jiu Jiu: “I’m probably only one and a half years old.”
