Starlight Necromancer

Chapter 73 - Little Undead Laboratory

"The boss still has slime all over its body, it\'s too dangerous for us to attack it right now. Especially now that I don\'t have my sword anymore." Lynol pointed out, while Foster was staring at the skeletal frog.

The slime had turned liquid and was now covering a large part of the frog\'s bones, but beyond that, it seemed like it was going to be a lot easier to fight. But not if Foster had to fight it all alone... instead, they had to find a way to get rid of the slime. If even a little bit of it was left, it was going to be far too dangerous for anyone beside Foster to try to fight it.

But then, he had an idea. The only reason why Foster didn\'t have any of the slime stuck on his clothes and his gauntlets was that on the floor that had the slimes, he was basically always covered in Kyla\'s Holy Aura.

With a smirk, he turned around and looked at the cleric, "Kyla, is it possible for you to give the frog a holy aura?"

"What? Why would I- That\'s a buff, I\'m not going to give it to our enemy! In the first place, it\'s an undead, it\'s not going to accept the holy aura anyway!" Kyla exclaimed, and Foster simply looked at her, "But you can still try, right? Even if it\'s just for a moment, that should be enough."

"...I don\'t know what you\'re thinking at all, but fine, I\'ll give it a try." Kyla replied with a deep frown, as she slowly started to play her handheld harp, singing a short song in tune with it. The holy aura disappeared from Octer\'s shield, and instead, a faint glowing mist was flowing through the air all the way over toward the undead frog.

It slowly enveloped the skeletal being, and part of the slime dried up. But before it was all able to truly crumble away, the holy aura dissipated, and Kyla choked up in her singing as the played note went awry, "See? I told you, it doesn\'t work! And I can only use holy aura two more times now! And if I try to cast it on the frog again, it\'s going to take up two slots again, so it\'s useless! It\'s not enough!"

Foster looked at the dried up black slime slowly dropping off the frog\'s body, while the skeletal animal was shaking in response to the holy energy, as an idea popped up into his mind.

"If that doesn\'t work... then I have another idea. But you\'ve got to trust me, alright? Cast it again, on my signal."

"What? I just told you, if I cast it on the frog again, it\'s going to take up the rest of my holy aura uses!" Kyla replied angrily, and before Foster was able to really explain his idea, Lynol cut in. He looked at the skeletal frog that was slowly recovering from the damage that had been done to it, and then turned toward Kyla.

"Do what he says. Please." The swordsman said, and Kyla let out an annoyed groan, "Fine, but don\'t tell me I didn\'t warn you guys. It\'s useless."

"Just trust me, it\'s going to do something, at least." Foster replied, as he quickly rushed over toward Octer, grabbing Aster from his shoulder. Foster had thrown him over here so that he would be safe from the incoming slime earlier, but now, he needed his spirit\'s help.

The moment that Kyla started preparing for the cast of the Holy Aura miracle, Foster started running, counting in his head for when the miracle would actually be ready, and slowly looked at Aster sitting on his gauntlet, "Please fire your last spark at the frog, alright? Squeeze every last bit out of there." He said with a smirk, while slightly turning his head, "Kyla, now!"

At that moment, both Aster and Kyla reacted basically simultaneously. Aster\'s mask turned into a slight funnel so that he could spout out that fire, while a slight glowing mist was traveling from Kyla\'s harp over toward the frog.

The moment that the mist surrounded the frog\'s body, Aster\'s flames shot forward. In that instant, the skeletal frog was not only enveloped in a holy aura, but also in scorching fire. Foster saw himself how the slime reacted uniquely to the combination of the two, so he was hoping that this would do something useful as well, something that could be used to take the frog down. It was a stretch, but it was the best thing they could bet on, as far as Foster was concerned.

And exactly like he hoped, the two forces reacted together. Not only did the majority of the slime covering the frog\'s body dry up just to be pushed away by the force of the fire, but the cracks that Lynol and Foster had formed in its front-legs earlier continued expanding while the skeletal frog was practically writhing in pain.

It didn\'t take long for both the flames and the holy aura to disappear, though, but Foster quickly turned to attack the frog\'s front leg again.

Using only one \'single strike\', Foster was able to shatter the bone that wouldn\'t budge earlier. The combination of the holy aura and the flames had made the frog\'s body brittle.

"Hurry it up!" Foster exclaimed, but Lynol and Octer were already on the way. Octer was holding one end of his shield, swinging it at the frog\'s skull to do as much damage as possible, and Lynol had picked up part of his sword\'s blade from the ground, awkwardly holding it at one of its blunt parts. But even so, he was able to exert enough force to shatter the frog\'s other leg apart as well, allowing all three of them to continuously attack the frog\'s spine and skull.

Like this, the damage to the boss\' body accumulated, until its skull simply caved in on itself, and the skeletal frog fell apart by its joints.

It took a few moments for the realisation to set in, but Octer, Foster, and Lynol all looked at each other, slight grins forming on their faces as they were filled with excitement. Excitement that was prompted to explode with the message that soon appeared in front of each of their eyes.
